Fliptail
Lightweight folding dinghy 6, 7 & 9 ft
The Fliptail
is a simple and stable folding dinghy which is pretty, functional, light
weight
and easy to build. It consists of a
central keel with two drop down floors, four hinged hoops and a reinforced
PVC cloth skin.
It assembles in moments and rows and sails extremely well. Tough, light and
resilient, with a 3.3hp motor it can also plane at speeds of up to 14 knots!
Available in three sizes from 6 to 9 feet long. (1.8m to 2.75m)
The Stasha is the World's lightest nesting dinghy
weighing in at
about 10 kilos (22lbs) making it child's play to launch and retrieve.
The Stasha is an elegant design and is a delight to row and great fun to
sail. Despite its light construction it is surprisingly strong.
The Stasha is made of two halves with a simple locking mechanism allowing it
to be easily assembled on deck, on shore or even in the water. As it's made from so few materials it
doesn't cost much to build.

Foldavan
Lightweight 2 berth folding bike caravan
The Origami is a sturdy design that has stood the test of time. Like the Fliptail, the
Origami
has a central keel, two drop down floors and a
reinforced PVC skin. The Origami has plywood side panels which makes this
dinghy very robust.
Folding flat to just a few inches in moments and weighing from as little as
15 kilos (33lbs) she is easy to move around and stow. The Origami will take
an engine, rows very well and also sails. Available in 6 and 8 foot
versions. (1.8m & 2.4m)
Easy to build, very stable and easy to customise.
Foldak
Folding 12ft canoe
The Foldak is an easy to build 12 foot folding canoe. Like
the Fliptail it consists of a central keel, drop down floors, four hoops and
a reinforced PVC skin.
It unfolds in less than a minute and all the pieces needed to assemble it
are always attached so you won't arrive at the water's edge missing a vital
piece.
It is stable, tracks well yet is easy to turn. Designed to be used with
either a single paddle or a double kayak paddle.
Deckster
5.5 ft hard dinghy
The Deckster is the boat with a hole in it!
Designed to stow on deck around the foot of your yacht's mast, it's the hard
dinghy solution for the spatially challenged.
The Deckster is stable, rows well, takes an engine and
sails.
The Deckster does more, it can also use the revolutionary Hobie
Mirage drive allowing you to face forward and keep your hands free whilst in
motion.

The
Foldavan is an ingenious teardrop bicycle caravan with three modes. In 'Stow'
mode it concertinas down to just 21cm so it can be put away easily when not
in use. In 'Road' mode it extends to 60 cm wide so you can get where you are
going with ease. In 'Camping' mode it is a full metre wide (option to build
a 1.2 metre version). With its small and aerodynamic shape and super light
weight it is no problem to tow along. You can even put a 6 ft Fliptail or
Origami dinghy inside!
At just 30 kilos it is very easy to tow and if it's windy you can unzip the
sides to make it easier to pedal and avoid it being blown over. Despite its
top heavy appearance most of the weight is very low down adding to the
stability.

Every single design was created with ease of build in mind. No
specialist tools are needed and most of the materials can be bought
locally or inexpensively online. The designs are not just easy to
make, they all work and work well. Strong, yet light, practical and
always interesting. Click on any of the images to learn more.
Origami
Lightweight folding dinghy 6 & 8ft
The Hoopy wooden bicycle. It might look complicated to make
but the frame can be marked, cut out and glued ready for varnish in just two
days. The box section frame is immensely strong yet only weighs 3 kilos.
The Hoopy is a 'one size fits all' bicycle but the seat can be raised or
lowered during the build if required. It can carry two with ease and will
make you friends wherever you go. It's also great to ride. Surprisingly fast
and very comfy.
Most of the parts needed to build a Hoopy are easily available secondhand or
can be salvaged from old bikes.
The Plurt
is an insulated yurt weighing just 250 kilos making it easy to assemble, transport and store. Opening windows can be fitted where you like
and the panels are interchangeable allowing for different configurations.
There is even an extended headroom option.
It uses easy to find materials in its construction and typically costs about
half that of a traditional yurt of a similar size.
With its spacious and bright interior, the Plurt is a very cosy place to be.
The
Plystream is a unique two berth aerodynamic caravan. It
weighs just 300 kilos so is light enough to be towed by almost any car and
its slippery shape makes it very stable and easy to tow.
The fully insulated Plystream can be built from metric or imperial materials
and thanks to its symmetrical shape it can be easily adapted to fit on any
trailer.
It will take about 350 hours to build a Plystream and thanks to our
comprehensive plans, along the way you will learn some very useful skills,
such as how to bend wood, varnish, use epoxy, make templates and much more.
The Slidavan is an easy to build
lightweight telescopic caravan which does it all. On the road its light
weight and compact dimensions means you'll hardly know you are towing it.
At the campsite it takes just a minute to turn it in to a fully insulated
and very comfortable 2 berth caravan with full standing headroom throughout.
No special skills or materials are needed to build a Slidavan and you don't
need much space either as a Slidavan can be built in a one car garage.
Slidacab
Lightweight telescopic truck camper
The Slidacab is a
four berth fully insulated
lightweight camper for a pick-up. It can be modified to fit on almost any
vehicle.
The roof raises in seconds thanks to four gas struts. The interior is bright
and airy. There's even a small stove and sink under one of the settee
berths.
It is easily mounted on the pick up by one person using just a couple of
scissor jacks, two step ladders and a pair of simple wooden stands.
No special skills or materials are needed to build a Slidacab.
The Plysonic is a slight departure for Woodenwidget.
It began as a personal project just for the fun of making a wooden
badminton racket but the end result was so satisfying that the decision
to create plans was made.
A little more challenging to make than most of the other designs but the
very detailed plans walk you through every single step of the way.
Only slightly heavier than a more modern racket but very pleasing to
play with with excellent feel and power. Takes a little getting used to
but once you get the hang of it you'll never go back!
